This is SKY Eye Clinic, providing ophthalmology information through Modoodoc. 😊 As we approach the end of 2022, many people are wrapping up the year with family and friends—and of course, alcohol often plays a role in these gatherings. 🍻🎉 However, if you’ve recently undergone vision correction surgery, post-operative care is crucial for a safe and smooth recovery. There are important precautions to follow to protect your eyes and ensure the best results. With the year-end celebrations ahead, many patients have been asking about when it’s safe to drink alcohol 🍷, as well as when they can smoke, take baths, or resume exercise after surgery. At Sky Eye Clinic, we’re here to provide you with detailed guidance so you can enjoy a safe and healthy recovery. Stay tuned for more information!
There are two major types of vision correction surgery: LASIK and LASEK. Since the most suitable procedure depends on each person’s eye condition, a detailed eye examination is necessary to determine the best option. Here’s what to expect in terms of recovery time after each procedure: 1. LASIK Surgery Recovery - Mild discomfort on the day of surgery. - Most patients can resume daily activities the next day! - Individual recovery speed may vary. 2. LASEK Surgery Recovery - Unlike LASIK, LASEK requires a longer recovery time before returning to daily life. - Patients typically experience burning, stinging, or mild pain for 2-3 days. - By day 4, most people can return to daily activities, but vision may still stabilize over time. Because recovery speed differs from person to person, it’s essential to follow post-operative care guidelines to ensure the best healing process!
1. Washing Your Face - LASIK: Light face washing is allowed the day after surgery. - LASEK: Light face washing is safe from day 4 onward. - Be careful not to let soap or foam get into your eyes, as it may cause irritation. 2. Wearing Makeup - Light skin makeup (foundation, BB cream, etc.) can be applied once washing your face is allowed. - Eye makeup (mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow) should be avoided for at least 2 weeks after surgery. - When removing makeup, ensure that cosmetic products do not enter your eyes, and avoid rubbing or pressing on your eyes. 3. Dyeing Your Hair - Hair dyeing is safest after at least 1 month, but a minimum of 2 weeks is recommended. - If you must dye your hair, it's best to do it at least 1 week before surgery to avoid any risk of irritation during recovery. Following these precautions will help protect your eyes and ensure a smooth recovery!
1. Drinking Alcohol - Small amounts of alcohol: Allowed after 2 weeks. - Heavy drinking: Should be avoided for at least 1 month. - To prevent inflammation and dryness, it’s best to avoid alcohol for the first month after surgery. 2. Smoking - Smoking itself doesn’t directly harm the surgery results, but smoke exposure can irritate your eyes. - Be cautious to avoid smoke getting into your eyes, as it can slow down healing. For faster recovery and healthier eyes, it’s best to avoid alcohol and smoking as much as possible during the healing period!
- It’s best to avoid bathhouses, saunas, and jjimjilbangs for at least 3 weeks after surgery. - Water exposure increases the risk of bacterial infection, which can slow healing. - If you must go, limit your time and avoid direct water contact with your eyes. For safer recovery, waiting a little longer is always better!
1. Light Exercise (Jogging, Cycling, Yoga, Pilates, etc.) Allowed after 1 week – Since these activities don’t involve intense movement, they can be resumed 7 days post-surgery. 2. Gym Workouts (Weight Training, General Fitness, etc.) Allowed after 2 weeks – Be careful to prevent sweat from getting into your eyes during workouts. 3. High-Impact or Contact Sports (Swimming, Skiing, Boxing, etc.) Avoid for at least 2 months – These activities put strain on the eyes and increase the risk of injury or infection.
